Karber Challenge 51: You Make Me Happy!

These past few weeks have been rather hectic what with the New York State exams during this past week and this week ahead.  Being an ELA and math teacher for the middle school classes can be quite stressful on a normal basis, but throw in a new test that's based on common core, and it creates even more tension!  But I'm not going to get into it too much because I know that I did my absolute best in preparing my students.  Whether they followed my constant instructions to memorize formulas and study is an entirely different story though!

But moving on to better things ... I bookmarked the latest Karber Challenge because the prize is superbly awesome!  The winner for Challenge 51 will get a $30 gift certificate to Paper Issues Shop (they have some super cute washi tape!) AND A Silhouette Cameo!  Um, what now?!  Lately I've seen so many people making such cute projects using their cameos because there are so many talented people out there designing SVGs.  I want to be part of the Silhouette world too!  I kept checking to make sure I would have enough time to complete this challenge, so this Saturday rolled around and I actually made sure that my day was free for CRAFTING!

For my first card, I used "Happy Millie."  I purchased this digi a while back.  I purposely chose it because her huge smile could be used for so many occasions and match up with a million sentiments.  This sentiment is from Pink by Design's set "Our Kids."

I decided to change up my same ol' same ol' by making a square card at 5x5 inches.  I also knew that I wanted to use some of my patterned paper from my Recollections stack called Bold Basics because I LOVE the colors and patterns and don't really use it that often because I tend to think that I need to save good paper.  Nope, it's time to use what I have!

I added bling to the flower in Millie's headband because it fits so perfectly and because the challenge was to also use my favorite embellishment.  I love the little packs of Queen & Co rhinestones because you get 60 of them for just $1.

Since I hadn't crafted in SO long, it actually took me a bit to try to get this together because all the other plans I had in my head didn't work out.  It's funny how even the simple cards can sometimes require a lot of thinking and trial and error!  In the end though, I really like how it came out!  I think I'll use the rest of that star paper to make multiples of this card.

  1. What a fun card Rachel. I wanted to stop by your blog and say thank you for the lovely comment you left on my blog also. I left some comments on other challengers cards as well, and noticed you had posted a nice comment on them all. You are very sweet for doing that. Good luck in the challenge, if I don't win, I sure hope you do. :) You deserve it!
